Our Mission

Since 1992, we have been developing and implementing programs providing protection and assistance for abused and neglected children in our community. Our work is executed through volunteers focused on three primary areas: education, justice, and safe places.  We are an all-volunteer 501 C 3 organization.

History

Past activities have included funding parenting classes, rage control classes for parents. We have provided training films on child abuse to law enforcement, teachers and childcare providers. We developed and implemented date violence awareness and prevention classes for junior and senior high school students.

Shelter the Children established the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) program in Miami County. Working with law enforcement and children welfare professionals, we created a special interview room for children victims of abuse. We also funded training for worker training in victim interview procedures.

Goals

Volunteering to work for and raising funds for the following:

Education

  • Educating the public, professionals who work with children, parents, and children about the abuse and neglect problem and how to help.

Safe Places

  • Creating and supporting organizations that work toward providing abused children with a safe place to spend time or live.

Justice

  • Working within the court system to provide justice for abused and neglected children.
